Bethune-Bowman (1-7, 0-3) at Allendale-Fairfax (7-1, 2-1)
B-B lost to 3-5 Denmark-Olar 48-20 last week. A-F was a 38-0 winner over Branchville. Aside from their loss to Bamberg-Ehrhardt, A-F has held four opponents under 10 points and has yielded no more than 14. B-B has failed to crack 10 points four times...I know in TV commercials they say that past performance is no guarantee of future results...but it actually probably is. Bamberg-Ehrhardt (8-0, 3-0) at Branchville (2-6, 0-3) No disrespect intended to Branchville, but their last three games have gone 40-0, 40-0 and 38-0, so playing an unbeaten Raiders team probably isn't the cure for what ails them...unless what ails them is only losing by 40 points. B-E is rolling to a region crown and probably number one playoff seed. Estill (5-3, 2-1) at Denmark-Olar (3-5, 2-1) Estill had a nice four-game winning streak going into last Friday, but none of those four games came against a team with a winning record...they played Bamberg-Ehrhardt last week who has lotsa wins and lost 37-6. Denmark-Olar has actually played OK in region, with a 2-1 record, including a 48-20 win over Bethune-Bowman. All I got for you on this'n Sparky. Burke (0-7, 0-2) at Baptist Hill (1-7, 1-2) These two teams have one win between them. Burke lost to St. John's 38-0 and have scored 14 points this season. They've also had to deal with a field that isn't playable and flooding, so you'd hope they have a shot at winning one. Baptist Hill was winless until last week's 56-16 victory over Lincoln. Lincoln (3-5, 1-2) at Cross (5-2, 2-0) Cross bombed Military Magnet 74-0 last week...see what I did there? Military? Bombed? HAHAHAHA!!!!!! Tiryn Footman had two offensive touchdowns and two defensive scores in that game and Cross' defense held MM to less than 50 total yards. Lincoln was on the business end of 40-point blowout to previously winless Baptist Hill. Lincoln is the smallest public school in the state with a football team, I want good things for such schools, so let's just move onto another game...OK? Miltary Magnet (1-7, 1-2) at St. John's (4-4, 3-0) Miltary Magnet got bombed by Cross 74-0 last week...see what I did there? Military? Bombed? Did I use that joke already? It's been a rough year for the Eagles, who have given up more than 70 points twice this year. St. John's knocked off Burke 38-0, and should be unbeaten going into next week's match with Cross that will decide the Region VI title. Could I say MM was shot down or something? It's not funny but it's different at least. Timmonsville (1-7, 1-1) at C.E. Murray (6-1, 1-0) There may not have been a team that suffered more from the storms and flooding that turned our state into a disaster area that C.E. Murray. Some players lost their homes and were living in their school, which was being used as a shelter, while other were basically stuck in their homes. They played on September 25, earning a win over Carvers Bay and didn't play again until Tuesday night. The layoff obviously didn't hurt them as they routed Hannah-Pamplico 65-10. Before the floods I said they would go 9-1 and I'm not backing off that claim. Timmonsville lost an 8-6 overtime game to Scott's Branch last week. For all you who bemoan spread offenses and high scores, there was a game for you. A throwback to the days when guys named W.C. And A.R. Administered skull franctures to one another with elbow smashes while running a Straight-T or Wedge with no helmets and only thick wads of duct tape to use as pads. That was football dangit! Scott's Branch (3-4, 1-0) at East Clarendon (1-6, 0-2) Scott's Branch won the old-timey slugout over Timmonsville I just referenced. Seriously, coaches smoked on the sidelines and derided players as candyass mama's boy's for wanting to drink water during summer practice or receive treatment for mangled limbs and whatever is making them poop funny. Rub some dirt on it. East Clarendon's lone win this year was a tight one against Camden Military. Carvers Bay (3-5, 2-1) at Latta (5-3, 2-1) Latta picked up a nice 51-0 win over Creek Bridge last week and seems to put up a metric buttload of points in most games. They sometimes give a bunch too as evidenced by a 65-48 win early in the year and a 54-41 loss to Lake View a few weeks back. Carvers Bay seems to be better than their record indicates. They gave a good Lake View team a struggle last time out before falling 20-16. They lost a close one to C.E. Murray and a couple of teams of higher classification. This should be a good one. Green Sea-Floyds (2-6, 0-3) at Creek Bridge (0-7, 0-2) Green Sea-Floyds got 128 yards and a touchdown from Wyatt Upchurch last week but lost to Hemingway 40-12. They've lost six straight after a 2-0 start, but this game feels like a chance for them to finish strong. Lake View (6-2, 3-0) at Hemingway (3-4, 1-1) Since a close loss to Lamar, Lake View has won four straight, including last week's 20-16 victory over Carvers Bay. They have winless Creek Bridge to finish up next week, so they'll have a shot to go into the post-season on a six-game winning streak. Hemingway got a big win over Green Sea last week to end a three-game skid.
